Miss Lori’s Preschool Newsletter for January 28, 2021
Dear Families,
Our class has been very busy learning about animals and how they survive the winter. We are almost finished with their book about this. They have made a squirrel looking in the snow for an acorn, they made a bear hibernating warmly in his cave as it’s covered in snow, they have made a fish pond covered in ice, and lastly they painted beautiful birds migrating towards warm, sunny weather! We have been reading many stories including Old Bear by Kevin Henkes, North Country Night by Daniel SanSouci, and Animals in Winter by Henrietta Bancroft. Next week we will talk about “Groundhog Day” and will have fun seeing our shadows!!! Are you hoping that the groundhog sees his shadow or no shadow?
During lesson time our class has been reviewing the phone numbers and addresses of each of your children. Slowly but surely they are becoming familiar with this. We also have been speaking about the letter “Oo”. The children know this letter is called a “vowel” and that it makes two sounds, “Oo” as in ocean and “Oo” as in octopus. Some of your children made an “owl” for their Alphabet Book and some of your children made an “Ollie Octopus” puppet. We have been going over all the pictures on our letter board every morning during lesson time. We read a story about owls called Owl Babies by Martin Waddell.
Next week we will move on to the letter “Pp”. On Thursday, February 4th, we will have our “Annual Pajama and Pancake Day!” Everyone is very excited to wear their pajamas to school! Please make sure that the girls wear something warm on their their legs (leggings) if they want to wear a nightgown. The boys and girls can bring their slippers to school in their backpacks if they would like to change into them once they arrive in the classroom. We will change them back into their shoes before they leave.
Next Friday, February 5th we will celebrate “Super Bowl Sunday on Friday!” Your children can wear their favorite sports jersey. Miss Sheryl will do some warm-up exercises with the class, relays, ball toss and “Pin the Football” to get a touchdown. We will then have a tailgate party with Salsa and Tostitos. It will be a week packed with fun!
Wishing all of our Red Robin families an outrageously fun weekend! Stay warm.
Warmly,
Miss Lori and Miss Kristine
