Miss Lori’s Newsletter for 11-5-20
Dear Families,
Our class had a delicious end to Halloween last week. We roasted the pumpkin seeds from inside of our class pumpkin. First I used a special carving knife to open up the top of the pumpkin. Inside of the pumpkin everyone saw the pulp and the seeds. The children took turns scooping out the seeds. After washing the seeds, we used some oil and salt, tossed the seeds into the mixture and baked them in the oven. All of the children were hesitant at first to taste the seeds – however, all of the boys and girls wound up having two and three helpings until we ran out of seeds!
This week we began with the letter “Ff”. Our friend Fateh is on our letter board along with so many fantastic pictures. Our class also knows that the numbers “four and five” begin with the letter “Ff” as well as Friday and February. Some of the children made a “Firefighter” puppet and some made a “Frog” for their Alphabet Book. All of the children made a spooky Frankenstein!
Our class spoke all about the election this week. We read a book entitled One Vote, Two Votes, I Vote, You Vote, by Bonnie Worth. Several of the boys and girls told us about their experience going to vote. We spoke about the job of a President. We decided to have an election too! We took a vote on which candidate the children thought would win – you can ask your children who they voted for and who won. We followed that voting experience with a snack vote. The debate was between Oreos vs. Potato Chips. It was a very close race…but Potato Chips won with the most votes!!!
Next week we will discuss Veteran’s Day. Reminder: School will be closed next Wednesday, November 11th in honor of Veteran’s Day. We will also move on to the letter “Gg”. So please continue to send in pictures for our letter board.
Warmly,
Miss Lori and Miss Kristine
