Long Island Nursery Pre-K Teacher Lori

Dear Pre-K Families,

This week we spoke about and introduced the letter “Bb”.  Our letter board is loaded with beautiful “Bb” pictures.  All of the children know the sound the letter makes.  Each of the boys and girls take turns thinking of “Bb” words as I write them on a chart as well as at the end of lesson time each morning.  All of the children cut, glued and colored a “Baby” for their Pictionary Book.  We are working every day to improve the children’s fine motor skills!

As Autumn has arrived, we spoke about apples.  We read a book called Apples, by Ken Robbins.  We learned that apples grow on trees and that we can go to an apple orchard and pick apples!!!  We opened up and tasted red, yellow and green apples.  Inside every apple was a magic star with seeds.  The boys and girls enjoyed crunching on the apples as they tasted the juice from each bite.  Some of the words used to describe the taste were “sweet”, “sour”, “yummy” and “crunchy”!  We graphed the children’s apple preference.  We learned that the “red” apple had the most votes and the “yellow” apple had the least votes.  Next, each of the children cut out a red apple, colored it, glued it onto construction paper and had their own hand painted green as the leaf on the apple!  Then everyone wrote their name on their paper.  Each day we are practicing this skill.

During lesson time we read many “Bb” books.  In addition to Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See? by Eric Carle and We’re Going On A Bear Hunt, by Helen Oxenbury, we read an adorable book entitled Otto the Book Bear, by Katie Cleminson.  It is about a bear that comes to life when no one is looking!  Even though he lives in a book he loves to walk off of his book’s pages.  When his book is taken away while Otto is exploring, the book bear sets off on an adventure to find a new home.

He eventually finds a new and better home in the LIBRARY!!!  Each of your children have begun creating their very own Otto the Book Bear book and their Otto will also be able to walk off of each page!  This is a work in progress and we will work on this all next week as well.  We will continue to talk about the letter “Bb” and read many more “Bb” books.  The reason for extending the letter “Bb” is as follows: ***Red Robin will be closed this coming Monday, September 26th and Tuesday, September 27th for religious observance.

Lastly, this week we began our All About Me book.  This is a book that will come home at the end of the year.  Each month your child will create another page in their book.  When this book comes home you will see all of the progress, thoughts and ideas your child had in Pre-K!  It will be a memorable keepsake for each family!

We will see everyone back at school next Wednesday, September 28th.  Wishing all of our families who celebrate- a very Happy and Sweet New Year!

Have an amazing first weekend of Autumn!

Warmly,

Miss Lori and Miss Kristine

***Please make sure to label everything that comes to school. Thank you.
