Dear Pre-K Families,
We introduced the letter “Rr” this week. The children made a “Randy Robot” puppet. We discussed the sound the letter makes and the children thought of many words that begin with the letter “Rr”.
The boys and girls had such a great time celebrating the 100th day of school last week. Each child had a turn counting out the 100 items that they brought in. The boys and girls had fun counting and stringing 100 beads to make their “100 Day Necklace”. They also counted 100 colorful squares, which they glued on to make a kite in preparation for Spring!
This week we have been enjoying many different Dr. Seuss books and celebrating Dr. Seuss as both an author and illustrator. Our class has a lot of fun reading his books and listening for all of the rhyming words. We have also been learning about weather. We have read many books about clouds, volcanoes, and tornadoes. We also read It Looked Like Spilt Milk by Charles Shaw. Each of the children pretended to be scientists by going outside and discovering the type of clouds that were in the sky each day. They also saw that the clouds could look like many different things, as shown in the book we read. Each child made their own cloud picture with white paint and interpreted the end result. Some children saw a butterfly, a rocket ship, a honeycomb, and a leaf. When we were outside we saw thin wispy clouds, or cirrus clouds as well as cumulus puffy clouds on the past few sunny days. On a snowy day the class saw stratus clouds, which were lower in the sky and gray. The entire class has thoroughly enjoyed learning about weather and making observations each day.
The highlight of our week was making volcanoes and watching them erupt! The children were fascinated as each child took a turn combining baking soda, vinegar, and red food coloring, pouring that into a bottle surrounded by soil. The “lava” came bubbling up and pouring down the “mountain”. We really enjoyed learning about all types of weather this week!

Enjoy your weekend!

Warmly,
Miss Lori and Miss Kristine
