Miss Lori’s News Flash September 14, 2018
Dear Families,
I would like to thank you all for sharing your children with us and trusting us with your children as well! We are off to a positive start. Your children are beginning to adjust to our school routine, The boys and girls are beginning to make friends, some old and some new, Our classroom has been transformed into a safe, loving place for the children to learn, explore and have a good time through learning centers, circle time and socialization.
This week we focused on learning the routines and behavior in school. We have also gone outside to the playground The children loved climbing, sliding and jumping at the treehouse! Our class has had so much fun having their hands painted to make something very special which will come home shortly. We have finger painted with shaving cream, water colored, used bingo dots on our “All About Me” bags and used crayons to color. We enjoyed listening to lots of books. Some favorites are ABC I Like Me by Nancy Carlson, Peppa Piq and the Busy Day at School, The Wheels on the Bus, by Paul Zelinsky and Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed by Eileen Christelon. The children really seemed to enjoy sitting on their mats to listen to these stories!
We have Circle Time each morning where we learn the days of the week, months, counting and weather. We dress up weather bear each morning which the children love to do! Your children are assigned a job each week. Our class has begun counting special colorful rubber balls each morning. We will use these bans to count all the way to one hundred! During Circle Time the boys and girls sit on their own carpet. We count the boys, the girls and then ali the children together each morning. Our class seems to enjoy finger play as well as dancing to music! The color of the week is “red,” the shape of the week is a “circle” and the number of the week is “zero”. As I told you at Meet the Teacher, we will focus on the “Letter of the Week”, introducing a new letter of the alphabet each week. This week we started with letter “Aa.” Please have your child help you to find and cut out two pictures that begin with the letter “Aa”. Going forward please send these pictures in with your child on Monday or Tuesday each week. Throughout the week we will be using that letter to do various art projects, learning new songs, reading lots of books and even cooking.
This week we also began our unit on “All About Me”. Your child’s bag is coming home in their folder with a suggestion list inside of the bag. Again this list is merely a suggestion. Feel free to add to it any way you’d like! The day and date for your child’s turn is written on the front of the bag and will begin on Monday.
Please feel free the contact me at any time if you have questions, concerns or just want to share something. Just a reminder, if you haven’t sent in your child’s family picture, as well as their individual one please do so.
Warmly,
Miss Lori, Miss Kristine and Miss Sam
