April 2, 2020 Red Robin School Greetings & Ideas from Miss Sheryl
Dear Red Robin Families,
Hello to all our wonderful families. I hope everyone is well and safe. That seems to be our new greeting! As much as I miss seeing our extended Red Robin family, I do look forward to my weekly newsletter. It definitely makes me feel more connected to all of you. It has also been fun seeing most of you on our “Zoom” time!!! My wish of course is for this to be short lived and be back together real soon.
I would love to see and hear all about the activities you are doing while you are home! While I have given you plenty of suggestions and ideas in prior newsletters, please feel free to look at all of the teacher’s newsletters to get even more suggestions.
Miss Lori recently sent me the following letter. It is written by, Dr. Emily W. King, Ph.D. I thought it really touched home and would like to pass it on to all of you.
Public Service Announcement
Parents: What we are being asked to do is not humanly possible.
There is a reason we are either a working parent, a stay at home parent, or a part-time working parent.
Working, parenting, and teaching are three different jobs that cannot be done at the same time.
It’s not hard because you are doing it wrong. It’s hard because it’s too much. Do the best you can.
When you have to pick, because at some time you will, choose connection.
Pick playing a game over arguing about an academic assignment.
Pick teaching your child to do laundry rather than feeling frustrated that they aren’t helping.
Pick laughing and snuggling, and reminding them that they are safe.
If you are stressed, lower your expectations where you can virtually reach out for social connection.
We are in this together to stay well.
That means mentally well, too.
Thank you Dr. King, it definitely resonated with me.
It is the new normal and it’s frightening. Your children are looking to you for love and comfort. Let them be children let there be laughter. Family, love and support are all stronger than a virus. Take this time … it is a gift in an uncertain world.
You know that I enjoy meditation and yoga. There is something truly calming as well as a feeling of positivity after a session. I have talked about GoNoodle. It truly gets the family moving in fun loving way!!! If you Google- Flow Go Noodle on YouTube there will be a variety of wonderful meditation sites as well as yoga. I personally recommend it for all. It might just lead to family laughter as mom and dad attempt the positions – I’d call that a success as well.
Try it…and let me know what you think.
“Namaste” to all.
Wishing you all good health!
Feel free to contact us at anytime.
Red Robin will always be here for its families.
XOXO
